Pokémon: HeartGold Review

As Pokémon HeartGold has almost been out for a week, in North America, and just barely a year for Japan, there have been many amazing events that we have missed. That has not at all hindered the amazing remake of the Classic Pokémon: Gold and Silver. Many changes have been made in the remakes, some amazingly helpful, some dreadful to major Pokémon fans. Either way, this game is very refreshing.
Changes:
The changes are sometimes subtle for major remakes, but not for this set of remake. Almost all the gyms have changed, the sprites have changed, and you can now even play as a girl. These are just a few changes, some other changes are the new but old in a sense HM’s. The starters are the same, but some of their movepools have changed. Before, Feraligatr could learn Hydro pump in the early leevle 60′s, now it learns it at level 71. This makes re-challenging the Elite 4 fairly hard, especially if you haven’t trained up your Pokémon above level 75.
I like the changes, but a few I very much dislike.

Story:
The basic story from Pokémon: Gold and Silver is still there. It has many very slight changes, including the new character; Lyra. She is Professor Elm’s Daughter, she is the Girl playable chracter. Unlike other Pokémon games though, she is not your rival. Your rival is still the greedy and mean Red Haired kid who was staring in through the window at Elm’s lab. In this game, instead of his prime name being “???”, he accidentally shows you his Trainer Card. You can still name him anything, making the story still enjoyable as the classic.
The Story is overall the same, which may turn certain gamers off. But the new features will make classic Poké players rejoice.
4/5
New Features:
The new events and features are very interesting. Instead of berries on the trees you find everywhere, there re Apricorns. These apricorns allow for you to make special or normal Pokéballs. Another new feature allows you to go to Kanto to face the gym leaders from that region. This also allows you to reface all the gym leaders. Including the Elite 4 and Johto gym leaders.
As said above, these features make  the game have a massive replay value. There is also the PokéWalker, but that isn’t too special.
4.5/5
Dislikes:
All I have to say is the encounter rate. It is extremely broken in this game.
In total I love this game. I’m just about to face the Elite 4, and have only locked in about 19 hours so far.
This is a must buy for Pokémon fans, and new gamers to the series.
Total score: 7.8/10
3/5 – Changes
4/5 – Story
4.5/5 – New Features
